Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Teaching Assistant, African American Studies and Research Program, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
PRIMARY FUNCTION OF POSITION: To assist with the instruction and grading of courses in Afro-American Studies; to provide support, advising, and teaching to students who take the courses.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
1. Assist with constructing and grading of assignments and exams.
2. Maintain attendance and grade book.
3. Be familiar with specific course materials and course reading assignments.
4. Assist students with writing assignments (e.g., review outlines).
5. Prepare and deliver class lectures upon request (occasional).
6. Perform other duties as assigned by the lead instructor or Director of the Program.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have good communication skills (e.g., writing), organization, and management skills, teaching, advising or other experience in an academic support environment. Interest and/or experience as a teaching assistant or in teaching Afro-American Studies preferred. Must also be in good academic standing and making progress toward your degree.
SALARY: 50% appointment fall semester with possibility of reappointment for spring 2009 semester; 20 hours per week. Tuition and fee wavier contingent upon Graduate College and College of LAS policies for graduate appointment.
